5 Cheapest Online Degree Completion Programs in Cybersecurity

Degree completion programs in cyber are designed for non-traditional students who have already earned an associate degree or a substantial number of undergraduate credits. If you fall into this category, we have also ranked the top 5 most affordable online degree completion programs for cybersecurity students in the USA. In most cases, students must have 60 credits for transfer.

Rank School Credits CAE Program Price
#1 St. Philip’s College | CSA 60 CAE-CD $9,280
#2 San Jacinto College 60 CAE-CD $13,380
#3 University of Charleston 60 None $23,700
#4 North Carolina Central University 60 CAE-CD $25,980
#5 Indiana Wesleyan University 60 None $27,300

Methodology: How We Reviewed Affordable Online Cybersecurity Degrees

Award Badge for the Most Affordable Cybersecurity Degree ProgramsEach year, the team at MastersInAI.org manually researches the cost of every online undergraduate program in cyber in the USA to create a list of the 25 Cheapest Online Cybersecurity Bachelor’s Degrees for 2026. These virtual programs cost between $25,520-$44,880. In order to give you the most accurate estimate, our total prices include all mandatory per credit & per semester fees.

  • Cyber Focus: For these rankings, we were willing to consider online bachelor of science programs in cybersecurity, as well as IT-related programs that offered cybersecurity as a concentration (e.g. BSIT).
  • Delivery Method: All of the bachelor’s programs in our affordable online cyber rankings are 100% online or close to it. Keep in mind that some online BS programs feature internships, which may have in-person requirements.
  • Accreditation: In order to qualify for inclusion, schools in our affordable online cyber rankings had to be regionally accredited. We were willing to include for-profit universities such as the University of the Potomac, Columbia Southern University, Capella University, and American Public University as long as they held regional accreditation. In addition, APU and Capella offer CAE-validated degrees.
  • Full-Time vs. Part-Time: Our calculations are based on 2026 tuition rates for online students who commit to a full-time plan of study for 4 years. This usually equates to 15 credits per semester for 8 spring & fall semesters. Bear in mind that some schools like Regent University also have a separate part-time tuition rate.
  • In-State vs. Out-of-State: If public universities were offering different in-state and out-of-state rates to online undergraduates, we chose the out-of-state rate for our estimates.
  • Mandatory Fees: To give you a realistic sense of expenses, we’ve also included any mandatory per credit and per semester fees in our estimate. Universities often like to charge online students a per semester distance learning fee, student services fee, or technology fee. In some cases, this can raise the price by $2,000 or more.
  • Additional Costs: The 4-year price is always going to be a minimum estimate. In the vast majority of schools, per credit tuition rates will rise each year. In addition, you may have to budget for one-off costs such as admission, graduation, and course fees.
  • Tie-Breakers: If schools were offering online bachelor’s degrees in cyber at the same price, the school with CAE designations ranked higher than the school without one. In the case of Central Methodist University (#8) and Avila (#9), which do not have CAE designations, CMU had a higher regional ranking for the Midwest.

Although a number of schools in our affordable rankings have some impressive quality markers—include CAE-R and CAE-CO designations—our 2026 list of the 25 cheapest online bachelor’s programs in cybersecurity is purely based on price. If you are searching for the best degrees in the USA, see our separate rankings of the top online bachelor’s programs in cybersecurity.

FAQ

What’s the Cheapest Way to Earn an Online Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity?

The cheapest way to earn an online bachelor of science in cybersecurity is to choose a self-paced program like Western Governors University’s Online Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance or the FlexPath for Capella University’s Online Bachelor of Science in Information Technology – Information Assurance.

The faster you can finish the curriculum, the more affordable it will be. For instance, if you are able to squeeze all of WGU’s coursework into two years, then you might only end up paying $19,600, including fees. That’s assuming you can handle the accelerated schedule! Talk to alumni before you make a decision on a self-paced program. It will require a lot of self-directed study.

Which is Cheaper—an Online BS in Cybersecurity from a Public University or a Private University?

Public universities tend to offer the cheapest online bachelor’s programs in cybersecurity, even for out-of-state students. 4 out of the top 5 degrees in our affordable cybersecurity rankings have been developed by regionally accredited public universities.

If you’re lucky enough to live in the same state as a public university with a strong online cybersecurity program, you may also qualify for cheap in-state tuition rates. See SUNY Canton and UAlbany in New York for examples. Not all online degrees are charged at in-state and out-of-state rates, so you will need to check the tuition page.

However, it’s important to point out that a number of private and for-profit universities offer ways to lower the cost of an online degree (e.g. tuition discounts for employees of partner companies).

What is a CAE-CD Designation?

A CAE-CD (Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense) designation is a formal recognition awarded to academic institutions by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) through the NCAE-C program. It signifies that a college or university has met rigorous standards in cybersecurity education, research, and workforce development.

Other prominent CAE designations include Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) and Research (CAE-R). CAE-CO is reserved for highly technical, interdisciplinary programs with a strong foundation in computer science, computer engineering, and/or electrical engineering, so it’s often the hardest designation to obtain.

Is it More Expensive to Choose an Online Bachelor’s Degree with a CAE Designation?

It is not more expensive to choose an online bachelor’s degree with a CAE designation. Four of the schools in our top 5 rankings hold a CAE-CD designation, including the university offering the cheapest online bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity in the country (Kennesaw State University).

In total, 14 schools in our top 25 most affordable rankings hold CAE designations and many (but not all) of them offer an online version of their CAE-validated degree.

How Can I Reduce the Cost of an Online BS in Cybersecurity?

To reduce the cost of your online bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, talk to the program coordinator about your financial situation and visit the Financial Aid section of the university’s website. There are plenty of funding avenues that go beyond federal student loans and grants. For example, you could consider:

  • Community College: You may wish to earn an online associate’s degree at your local community college and transfer your credits to a degree completion program.
  • Credit Transfers: If you have taken any standardized exams (e.g. AP) or earned any professional certifications (e.g. CompTIA A+), these may count as college-level credits. In addition, many schools are willing to offer transfer credits for military or work experience.
  • Partner Discounts: If you work for a company who has partnered with the school, you may qualify for a partner tuition discount (e.g. 10%).
  • Employer Reimbursement: Some IT companies are willing to sponsor their employees’ education or offer dedicated tuition benefits.
  • Military & Veteran Tuition Rates: If you are a military servicemember, a veteran, or the family of a veteran, you may be eligible for lower tuition rates.
  • Scholarships: You can also apply for specific scholarships for online students and cybersecurity majors (see below).

What Are CyberCorps® SFS and DoD CSA Cybersecurity Scholarships?

Two of the most generous scholarships for undergraduate studies in cybersecurity come from the U.S. government. They are the:

  • CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service: Funded by the NSF, the CyberCorps® SFS program provides up to 3 years of support for cybersecurity undergraduate and graduate education (MS or PhD). In return, graduates must agree to work for the U.S. Government in a cybersecurity position for an equivalent length of time.
  • DoD Cyber Service Academy (CSA): Recruitment scholarships are open to students who currently are not Department of Defense (DoD) or government employees. Students are required to enroll in, or apply to, an institution that is designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C). In return, graduates must match each year of scholarship support by working for the DoD.

If you search the CAE Institution Map, you’ll see the codes SFS and/or CSA appearing beside some schools. These are institutions that are eligible for these scholarships.
