Who We Are
MastersInAI.org is run by Degree Prospects, a Washington DC-based education media company. Degree Prospects has spent nearly 20 years creating similar higher education guides in cyber security, data science, software engineering, and beyond. We are often cited by universities and industry leaders for our objective and reliable resources.
In order to ensure you’re getting real-world advice, MastersInAI.org employs a team of researchers and writers with extensive experience in technical realms. Some hold degrees in computer science; others are teaching engineering at the university-level. Our senior staff writer holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has been crafting higher education guides for 15+ years.
What We Do
MastersInAI.org is an independent guide that’s designed to support students and professionals pursuing academic pathways in artificial intelligence (AI) and closely related fields. We aim to help our readers find an AI degree or certificate that matches their field of interest, geographic location, and price point.
- Directories: We are proud to operate the first and most comprehensive database of AI degrees and certificates in the United States, with 441 regionally accredited universities and colleges and 935 programs in our directories (and still counting)!
- Rankings: Every year, we publish independent rankings of the best and most affordable artificial intelligence degree programs in the USA. Built on verifiable government and public data sources, these rankings evaluate AI program quality, reputation, and student outcomes.
- Research Reports: We also conduct data-driven original research in the field of artificial intelligence. Our latest AI Degree Report analyzes the landscape of AI higher education in the United States.
- FAQ and Advice: To save our readers time and money, we supplement our AI degree rankings and directories with pragmatic advice sections. These provide students with tips on how to choose a program; highlight potential career pathways; and supply answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ).
Our History
MastersInAI.org was created in response to the astronomical growth of artificial intelligence degrees and certificate programs in the USA.
We started keeping an eye on AI in the late 2010s, at the same time as we were working on preexisting higher education sites in data science and analytics. Even though artificial intelligence was still considered a niche field, we were beginning to see signs of movement:
- In 2018, Carnegie Mellon University launched the first bachelor’s in AI degree in the United States.
- In 2019 and 2020, a few more programs appeared, including Johns Hopkins University’s Online Master’s in AI.
- By the end of 2020, we were actively building an online and public database for students interested in earning an academic qualification in AI.
In 2021, we launched MastersInAI.org, the first AI education and degree guide on the web. We quickly developed a small, dedicated audience of AI students, professionals, and university faculty members.
- In late 2021 we published our inaugural rankings of the nation’s Best Master’s in AI Degree Programs, using subtle data points to uncover the small group of schools leading the charge.
- But after the public release of ChatGPT in late 2022, AI suddenly became the most discussed technology on the planet. In 2022, there were 116 master’s in AI programs in our directory. In mid-2025, there were 310, including master’s in closely related fields such as machine learning.
To keep up with the changes, we expanded our remit. That means our AI directories and rankings now include bachelor’s degrees and graduate certificates in artificial intelligence, MBA in AI programs, and degrees in AI-related fields such as computer vision.
In October 2025, we also published the AI Degree Report, which tracks the staggering growth of AI education since 2018. This data-driven report uncovered some enlightening facts, include the rise of AI schools in states like Texas and Florida and hidden AI engineering strengths in the Midwest.
Today, MastersInAI.org is proud to be the first organization to recognize the need for reliable AI education guidance. And our team is still working hard to maintain our reputation as the #1 provider of independent, unbiased advice about AI degree programs.
Why You Can Trust Us
MastersInAI.org is an independent higher education website.

- Rankings Policy: We do NOT accept payment from colleges and universities for rankings. Our rankings policy is to draw on reliable, publicly available data and make data-based decisions rather than subjective choices.
- Advice Policy: We do NOT allow colleges and universities to influence our advice sections—all views are our own. Our advice policy is to provide unbiased information with links to reputable references and sources. However, schools can contact us at any time to correct factual mistakes.
